Enchanted by glass, we’re giving away copies of the new book on René Lalique

All that glitters is not gold.  Sometimes, the glitteriest is glass.

The soon-to-be-released book René Lalique: Enchanted by Glass is a stunning paean to glass as a medium and to M. Lalique as one of history’s finest glass artists; it is being published in conjunction with what is sure to be an unforgettable exhibition of Lalique glasswork at the Corning Museum of Glass.

In response to the jewelry Lalique displayed at the 1897 Salon des Champs-Élysées, Émile Gallé, then among the most influential art nouveau designers in France, said, “This year… it was Monsieur René Lalique who was the uncontested champion in Fine Arts. He represents a startling regeneration of the jeweler’s craft which, I dare say, lays the groundwork for the ultimate modern bijou.”  Lalique’s jewelry was collected by many well-known figures of the time, including Sarah Bernhardt, Countess Greffulhe, and Natalie Clifford Barney.

One American First Lady had an official portrait painted of her wearing a beautiful Lalique brooch featuring pressed-glass doves.  The first three readers to email us at yaleARTbooks@gmail.com with the name of this First Lady will receive a copy of the book.
